Yup. I saw this ad on tv and went out, test drove it, fell in love with it and bought it. I have never in my life so identified with a car. I made it jump, just like in the commercial, it corners just like in the commercial, and it was super fast off the line, and I have driven it over 100 mph (161 kph). What a car!
So when Dave Mason over at House of Vader asked “What kind of car are you?”, while I would have loved to have answered that I was a Porsche, I had to be honest and say that “I am a VW Rabbit GTI!” I think it is with pride though. It is a little pocket rocket that can surprise many a sleepy roadster. It was so much FUN to drive!

Now I have a Golf GTI. It is lots of fun too! But nothing was like the initial rush of that Rabbit GTI!
I had an ’84 Jetta GLI which was like your Rabbit, but with 4 doors and a trunk. Then I had an ’88 Jetta GLI with the 16V DOHC engine. I loved both of those cars. SO much fun to drive! And now I look at Volkswagens and they remind me more and more of Toyotas: blah, bland, beige

Yeah, both my GTI’s had the 16 valve engines which really have a lot of kick! VW in general make high quality cars; other brands in general (unless they are German) pale in comparison.
