Plus the Skeletor Saves Charity Art Silent Auction, held at Headquarters Studio, 385 Broadway, was a great party! The event was put together by Brian Moylan, Bradford Shane Shellhammer, and David Mason Chlopecki. I hope you like the photos I have chosen to post, the rest of them are in this flickr account.
I worked the door with lovely Nick for two hours and we made quite the team, he was in charge of the cashier box and I handed out the bidding pencils. Cute guys could be seen everywhere! The gold vermeil Skeletor belongs to Dave Mason and it is a good thing it didn’t sell, because he loves that thing to death! The painting of She-Ra is by Matthew LeBaron and graced the cover of Next Magazine and was distributed at the door. Kurt Walters, poses beside his work, a Nagelized version of Skeletor and panther. Junior Stellano, a model for Slick It Up, showed up at the benefit. Some of my favorite works included the Ian Jopson paintings and the china. Dave greeted Junior at the door and I was so close that I had to tilt my camera to get this shot! Dave and I posed together right before I left and I was really tired! A crowd shot does not do justice to how packed it was; it was like a sauna in there! Another favorite entry of mine is Scooter Laforge’s submission “Filmation” because I love the colors! I wonder who posed as Aaron Cobbett‘s Skeletor? Louis Ramos perhaps? Alexis Bittar’s vermeil armor gauntlet drew many bids and looked very deadly! Aaron Cobbett manned the DJ booth and I got to meet him for the first time!
The event benefitted the Ali Forney Center, a shelter for LGBT youth and raised over $10,000 – $15,000 $20,000 towards that cause. It certainly was the place to be on April 7th!
